Disease-resistant roses are always a challenge, especially in areas where summers are hot & humid. That's why the "Knockout" rose has been such a sensation. Well now, OSO Easy(TM) Roses are about to hit the market, and with their sensational color & slightly different form, designers will surely find them candidates for many clients' gardens.
"Peachy Cream" will be introduced to growers in 2007. It reaches 24-36" in height and has glossy green foliage that's said to be free of black spot and mildew. It blooms from early summer until frost, and is hardy to Zone 5. I love the true peach color, which is so difficult to find in most roses.
"Paprika" reaches only 12 to 24" inches. The blooms start out as a deep paprika color, then fade to coral with a golden center. This plant is also hardy to Zone 5, with the same long blooming period and disease resistance. Because of it's small size, this one seems perfect for small urban gardens, and it could certainly be used effectively as a very colorful groundcover.
Finally, "Fragrant Spreader." This rose is very low growing, with sweet-scented, single pink
flowers. It's said to be a perfect solution for difficult locations, such as banks or large areas that need a durable plant with no disease problems. Plus, it looks goods most of the year.
These plants are being introduced in the US by Spring Meadow Nursery of Grand Haven, MI. They were all originally bred in England.
