The new National Garden adjacent to the US Botanic Garden at the bottom of Capitol Hill in Washington DC will open to the public on October 1st. In the making for the past 5 years -- and in the planning for much longer -- the three acre garden will feature useful, unusual, and ornamental plants that thrive in the mid-Atlantic region. It includes a Rose Garden, a Butterfly Garden, a Lawn Terrace, the First Ladies' Water Garden, a Regional Garden, and an outdoor amphitheater.
A sneak preview for families and children will be held on Saturday, Sept 30 from 10AM-4:30 PM, featuring live music, crafts involving roses, watercolor painting, and more. I'll be touring the garden later this week, so stay tuned for an update.
