How lucky for Vancouver's VanDusen Botanical Garden. Christopher Woods -- horiticulturist, designer, author -- has been appointed Garden Director at VanDusen and will assume his reponsibilities on September 18th. Those of us who live in the mid-Atlantic region became familiar with Woods during the 20 years that he was creating a true masterpiece, Chanticleer (above), in Wayne, PA. Woods is a native of England and began his career as an apprentice horticulturist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He moved to the US in 1981 to begin work at Chanticleer, where he remained until 2003. In recent years, Woods has worked at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy. He's the author of "The Encylopedia of Perennials: A Gardener's Guide" (1992) and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's "Perennials: A Gardener's Guide" (1991).
