Thanks for this post and link. I am a big tree peony fan for the scent and foliage. One Capitol Hill resident has a very old one that is like a medium sized Japanese maple in size. Truly regal in old age.

Tree peonies are fabulous, but have you checked out intersectional peonies? They have a longer bloom season than their parents (tree and herbaceous varieties) and are beautiful plants even when not in flower. My, oh, my!
