A talented landscape designer can usually find a way, in most any garden, to design a secret little place where clients can hide away from the rest of the rest of the world, an area where they can read and relax or just contemplate the nature. Sometimes it's a place way back at the rear of the garden, or maybe it's surrounded by taller plants so that no one would notice you if they strolled nearby.
Iin Nantucket last summer, I noticed this B&B and and its artful take on the secluded garden. You walk into the perennial garden, shown above, but just across from the entry steps is a terrific patio, shown below, where guests can sit and feel like they are in another world.
Nestled in front of a stone wall, even though the neighboring houses loom somewhat over the site, the heavy bank of plants between the patio and the wall provide a real sense of separation ... and a very successful design for a private, secluded garden atea.
