Anyone who has a vegetable garden, large or small, has the old gene of impatience rattling around somewhere inside. So this is the book for you ... results in almost no time.
In The Speedy Vegetable Garden (Timber Press, 2013), authors Mark Diacono and Lia Leendertz clue you in on the varieties that produce in almost no time at all. 40-day cucumbers and zucchini, 50 day carrots, 65 day tomatoes: they list all the cultivars, so you won't have to search through a zillion catalogues to find what you want.
And, they show you how to produce "micro-greens" like 14-day cilantro, 10-day radish, arugula and red cabbage for salads and stir-frys.
Photos throughout illustrate the planting techniques, the vegetable varieties, and scores of recipes to go along with the harvest.
The authors are British, so you might not find the varieties they recommend at your local garden center, but they are available online, so order now for first harvest.
