Simple plantings and hardscape, along with the modern-style water feature, have a sculptural quality and perfectly complement the house.
This design, by Pete Cadieux of A Blade of Grass in Wayland, Massachusetts, is very traditional, but classic and beautiful, to say the least. Cadieux designed a series of garden rooms on a gently sloping, narrow, U-shaped lot to give his clients room for their children to play, room for relaxation, and plenty of room for garden beds to accommodate an avid gardener.
In front, the brick circle and checkerboard direct visitors to the front entry, to the backyard, to other garden rooms and to the street as well. There's also an "English" garden area, requested by the client, a pergola and seating area, and a bowling green lawn. If you want New England, this is it.
