No guesswork involved in which garden on this block was designed by a pro. It's the garden of professional landscape designer Christie Dustman in West Roxbury, MA.
Artworks abound in this garden, many fashioned by Christie's partner, furniture maker Patti Ryan. It's an eclectic mix of 50-plus conifers, many rare plants, stone, metal, glass, you name it.
In the backyard, shown here, note the tiny object attached to the latticework, just to the right of the stone pillar and the metal sculpture amidst a variety of colorful perennials.
Yes it's a curved piece of metal planted with a beautiful display of succulents ... something you just can't miss when you come down the drive from the front to backyard.
Dustman and Ryan leave nothing to chance ... a raised stone circle filled with dwarf evergreens ... along with a few strategically placed stones and a metal heart.
Among the unusual plants in this garden are a dwarf dawn redwood, a 'Niagara Falls' white pine, and a fastigiate purple beech ... just to name a few.
I saw the garden on a Garden Conservancy Tour ... but look for it again come spring & summer... it's a trip. Everywhere you look, there's something else to see.
