The following new "Proven Winners" plants from Spring Meadow Nursery will be available in retail garden centers in the spring of 2015.
Happy Jack ™ Purple Clematis
(Clematis 'Zojapur')
This is a very easy-care clematis from Wim Snoeijer of the Netherlands ... it blooms on new and old wood, so you just prune it every spring back to two feet tall. It has plum-purple flowers with yellow stamens and blooms from mid summer into fall. Six to eight feet tall, to zone 5, and it takes sun to part sun. What could be easier in a clematis?
Yuki Cherry Blossom™ Deutzia
(Deutzia 'NCDX2')
Thisi is a 'Nikko' type deutzia, with, WOW, pink flowers, and the leaves turn burgundy in fall. I actually have two growing in my back yard and can't wait to see them flower next spring. At one to two feet high, it makes a fabulous low hedge, and it attracts hummingbirds to boot. Developed by Dr. Tom Ranney of North Carolina State University. Sun to part sun, to zone 5.
Castle Gold™ Blue Holly
(Ilex x meserveae 'Gold Princess')
I can't resist gold plants, and well, blue holly just turned limey-gold. The gold color emerges with new foliage in spring, then fades to the regular bluish-green. Red berries, of course, in fall. This holly gets five to six feet tall and it is best suited to areas with high moisture content. It would make a striking hedge or mass planting in almost any border area. It takes full to part sun, to zone 5, developed by Carroll Nurseries of Cochranton, PA.
