'Gem Box' Inkberry Holly

This small plant is advertised as an inkberry that does not get leggy, ie, there's tight branching right to the ground. If true, it's going to be a real winner. Two to three feet high and wide, it's said to more or less resemble a boxwood. The leaves emerge in spring with a red tinge as well. It's also deer resistant and has good shade tolerance. Great for borders or garden edges, massing, or even as a container specimen. Evergreen, to zone 5, available in nurseries spring 2016.
'Brass Buckle' Japanese Holly

A small, golden evergreen with fine-textured leaves, this holly also has burn-resistant foliage. It has a mounded habit, and at just 12-18" high and wide, it's a good choice for low edging or containers. To zone 5. Developed by Andre van Nijnatten of the Netherlands.
'Shiny Dancer'™ Viburnum
(Viburnum 'NCVX1)
This semi-evergreen viburnum is a cross between V. 'Huron" and V. 'Chippewa' by Dr. Tom Ranney of North Carolina State University. For a viburnum, it is certainly compact, at only 3-5' tall and wide. It has shiny, waxy leaves tinged red at the margins, with lots of creamy white flowers in spring. It's deer resistant, and a great addition for the border, massing, in containers or as a specimen plant. Install with either of the parent plants to get a large crop of red, persistant berries. The leaves turn a rich burgundy red in late fall. To zone 6. I think I definitely can find a place in my garden for this plant.
'Emerald Envy' Lantanaphyllum Viburnum

The leaves on this deciduous viburnum often hold until quite late in the season, so it's a great choice for many landscapes. This new cultivar has a dense, compact habit and it it's smaller than most, at only 6-8 feet high and wide. It has loads of creamy white flowers in spring and it's deer resistant. Developed by Dr. Tom Ranney of North Carolina State University. You don't see these viburnums everywhere, so it's a great addition for homeowners who want something a little different. To Zone 6.
