A major exhibition on the art, garden, and life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo opens this coming weekend at the NY Botanical Garden. (May 16-Nov 1). The focus of the exhibition is on Kahlo's avid interest in nature, and it includes a re-imagination of the Casa Azul (Blue House), her studio and garden in Coyoacán, just outside Mexico City, where she lived and worked with her husband, famed muralist Diego Rivera.
The garden's library will also have a rare display of Kahlo's paintings and drawings, and there are special programs on Kahlo's life and influence, including a symposium on Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera -- Mexican Art in the 20th century-- as well as lectures, poetry, a Mexican plant tour, and much more.
